One bite a minute

Friends and family know that I have not been running for a couple years now due to lower back issues. In fact I had to, for the time being, give up soccer and hockey to sort this out. I miss running. In fact sometimes I dream about running in a race and that is a happy dream. (Okay, let’s face it; I am jealous of people who can run.)

One result of this situation is that I have gained weight because I LOVE TO EAT. I need to do something about that because it is counter-productive to my recovery. Lately I have been thinking about food portions and my buddy sent me this link which makes a lot of sense to me: http://www.oneminutebite.com/. I’m going to try it out and I will let you know how I make out.

Keep running and be glad for it:)

I feel your pain Randy. When I had knee injuries in undergrad, I had to stop running and I not only gained weight, I didn’t feel quite like me anymore. Fortunately I had a really good sports medicine guy at the UofA who got me running again. Are you in physical therapy? Have you thought about swimming as an alternative workout? When I was injured, my coach told me told me swimming would help me keep up my fitness level while I recovered. It’s a great workout and there’s a free pool at NAIT.

    Can you swim, Randy?

I had stopped running for abt 9 months and just started again. Am training a young soldier into better fitness. I have been cycling for many years, very much enjoy that. I do swimming as well, 1 bad knee, wear knee support while swimming for added balances.
There are always alternatives to running, speed walking helps too. Different type of impact is what you are after. Eventually, in a year or so youse go back to Running. Races are 10k and less, as 1/2 marathon mayb too much.
Cud u pls add cycling into the runningmap site, and allow it to track distance covered, thxs
Keep healthy, keep safe. Cycle for a better life.

I am going to try cycling to work. Any advice on a new bike? Can you please elaborate on what cycling feature you would like to see added?

Hi Randy! When we are unable to do what we are passionate about and what drives us, it is very difficult. I feel you. Swimming and cycling are great suggestions. I just ordered a Gymboss interval timer. That may be great to use for your swimming and cycling workouts. Vital to have a heart rate monitor to lose weight. You can program it to beep when your HR is below and above the fat burning zone. In addition, quality supplements and low glycemic foods will assist in weight loss. Also, check out HIIT (high intensity interval training) for your cardio training.

Thanks! I still have not returned to running but I did buy a bike and a trainer stand for winter. I’ll look into the Gymboss.
