Upgrade

About a week ago the main RunningMap web app was upgraded. The primary difference is the mapping engine change to Google Maps. The result is access to more up-to-date maps and faster loading map tiles. You will also notice while in “satellite” map mode that you can zoom in closer by two more levels than before! We re-made the elevation graph from scratch. Also, we upgraded the database to support foreign (to english that is) characters. This was a big upgrade for us and we are happy to report things have gone pretty smoothly. Here is a full list of the additions:

  • Google Maps
  • Zoom with scroll wheel
  • New elevation chart
  • Share your route via Twitter and Facebook
  • Back to start button
  • Delete mid-route point

We are currently working on a much needed update to the iPhone app. Lots more to come. We promised to keep it simple, useful and beautiful.

    IPhone app should ne able to search routes as the runningMap web site can, at least have access to the routes we have created.

    I totally agree. We are working on that.

    Keep getting “LocationUnknwn” message on iPhone(4G); how do I fix that with your app?

    Check to see that Trackometer is enabled on your device for location services: Settings -> Location Services.

    This program both on the computer (internet) and the App is really bad. I am logged into the site and I cannot pull up my archived maps. I cannot logg in on the App that I got on my Iphone. What is going on? I agree that you need to fix the app and I do not see where you fix the web app. I am now having more problem then I was prior to the “upgrade.”

    Oh, well. Your upgrade means I can’t use your site. My old operating system is only supported through Adobe Flash 9 and your site now requires Adobe 11.2. Of course it’s really Adobe’s fault because their lazy and won’t make their products backwards compatible but I’m not going to buy a new computer just to access a couple site. :-(

    I have been using runningmap.com with pleasure. Three features that I miss are:

    * zoom with scroll wheel
    * delete mid-route point
    * search public routes not by keywords but by just looking at the map (i.e. zoom to my favorite area and look at the routes in that are)

    Apparently the first two features should already exist! The zoom thing might be an issue with FireFox or Opera (the two browsers I use). Could you tell me how to do the mid-rout point thing? Thanks!

    Zoom with scroll wheel works, in most browsers. You can delete a route mid-point by clicking on it (it turns red) then pressing the delete key on your keyboard. Search needs some love. We have the feature you ask for partially completed.

    Cheers,

    Randy
