Can I make the ads go away?
Shhhhhh. Don’t tell anyone, but if you turn on the elevation graph, the ads will disappear.
How often do the maps update?
Here is a Yahoo! developer’s answer to this question: “There is no hard and fast rule to this. Updating and rolling out new imagery data is an ongoing process because of the level of effort and cost involved with updating this imagery. For the most part much of the imagery data is 2 years old or less … but this is just a rough number.”
What is a POI Marker?
POI stands for “Point of Interest”. Use button this to place a marker on the map that will allow you to enter some text that points to a specific location. A maximum of 500 characters can be entered. You can also change the color of the “pin head”. When you save a permalink, it will remember if the window for the marker is open or closed. Clicking on the pin head will toggle the window open or closed.
Why is elevation showing zero for all or some points?
We are using a third party service for determining elevation. Sometimes the service is down and sends back nothing but zero. In this case, you will have to try again later to see the elevation data. Sometimes the data that comes back is fine with the odd value which is zero (and is obviously incorrect). This may throw off the scale of the chart and can be fixed by clicking the point on the elevation graph so it re-queries the elevation database.
Can someone change my route once I save it as a permalink?
No. Not even you can. If you load a saved map, change it and then save it again, you will be given a brand new permalink. Now you have two.
I don’t remember the permalink ID, can I get it back?
You can now use Search to find saved routes.
How do I move the map, there are no buttons?
Click and drag on the map itself will move the map. The tiles may take a moment to fill in as new images are downloaded from the server. A single click without moving will create a point on the map.
When I save a route as a permalink can other people see it?
If you are signed in, you have the option of making your saved routes public or private. A private route will not show up in search results and is only viewable by the user who created it. The default setting is public. Personal information about a route (username, first name, last namce etc) will not be shown with public routes, however the location, description and tags will be viewable.
If you are not signed in, any route you save will be public.
RunningMap Trackometer
The clock is running but the distance does not change.
Under some circumstances the phone is unable to determine your position. If GPS is not working the app will display ‘GPS lock: none’. In this case no route data is collected and distance cannot be calculated.
The route I uploaded had areas of missing points.
Your phone lost GPS accuracy at these locations. We are working on an update that tweeks the sensativity for accepting GPS data. Look for an update in the near future.
Do I need to create a new account in Trackometer? I already have an account on RunningMap.com.
There is no need to create a new account if you already have one on RunningMap.com. Just enter your username and password under “settings” which will be used when you upload a route to the website from the iPhone.
Will Trackometer work on my iPod Touch?
No. iPods do not have GPS capabilities which Trackometer requires to determine your location.
Can I listen to music while using Trackometer?
Yes. However you will have to start the music before you launch the application. Trackometer does not yet support starting music from within the app itself.
What happens if I exit the program to use another app?
The iPhone does not allow more than one application to run at once, therefore Trackometer will stop recording your route.
What happens if I answer a phone call or reply to SMS?
Trackometer will pause while you are on the call however your route will be reset.
What is the battery life using Trackometer?
The GPS feature is demanding on the iPhone battery so we recommend that you have a fully charged battery before setting out for long duration activities.
