When you search for a route, you can click on a result and the route will load. Previously you did not get to see what the permalink (aka route ID) was. Now when you click on a route in a search result, the permalink is shown on the information bar at the bottom of the Runningmap application.

There is a recent post on the Yahoo! Developer Network site about us: Developer Spotlight: RunningMap.com. Yahoo! has some really cool developer API’s and Runningmap only scratches the surface of two of them. Runningmap has also been hosting with Yahoo! for almost a year and it has been painless. I visited San Jose at a Flex conference in March and met some Y! developers who were all really nice. One was even from Alberta (Scott)! So thanks Y!
We will be in the spotlight a little bit more in the near future. Chris and I are flying to Vancouver on the 9th so we can be interviewed by Leo Laporte for his TV show “The Lab With Leo” about Runningmap. I will post when the segment is scheduled for broadcast.
Today Runningmap surpassed 20,000 user saved routes. I have had emails lately about searching routes. We are working to improve the search capabilities to serve this data better. Thanks runningmappers!

Welcome to a newly designed and organized section of Runningmap.com. This replaces the forum-style web pages that were here before. This is the beginning of big changes to the site as we transition to a new look with big new features!
The News section will be used in a blog-like manner and will give users an opportunity to comment on things happening here, or to search past news.
We are very fortunate to have Sarah Ramsden consulting with us on this redesign. Thanks Sarah!
We hope you like it. Send us your comments.

ver 2.9.14
Elevation above the 49th parallel (Canada) in North America is now working again.
I have made a few more tweeks to point functionality and distance text color.

News @ 30/06/2007 |
The main update today is the addition of milestone markers. This is simply a dot that is placed on your route every whole mile (or km).
We have tweeked the rollover state of the points, trying to achieve the right combination of usability and visibility.

Last Night Yahoo! quietly updated their map tiles. If you zoom out you will see topographic features. Very nice. They have also upgraded the geocoding, which means you may need to be more precise when you enter an address in. For exmaple, St. Albert does not work anymore for me, but St. Albert Canada does.

Version 2.9.5 has a few new things.
The biggest new feature is the Photo point of interest marker. Click on the camera icon and a dialog box will appear. You have two options: 1) enter a URL for a picture hosted somewhere; or 2) select a public photo from your Flickr account (http://www.flickr.com is free to use). Runningmap will not store your photos, just a URL to them.
Another thing that is new is the second row or buttons has been made into icon buttons with tool tip rollovers. This allows for more descriptive instructions. There are many other minor tweeks and fixes.
Unfortunately elevation outside of the USA is still unavailable. We are working on that.

2.7.55
Today I added a colour picker that allows you to change the colour of the route lines. The line colours do not get saved to a permalink, but will be remembered as a preference on your computer. Map view and satellite view will be remembered as separate values.

ver 2.7.54
I fixed a bug where the mileage text did not change to white when in Satellite view. Two new features:
1) clicking on a elevation point on the elevation chart will cause the map to center on the corresponding marker on the map.
2) if a point on the elevation chart is red and the points to the right have updated, then this point has probably recieved bad data. Also, if an elevation point is at an elevation of 0 and is obviously wrong, this point also recieved bad data. Clicking on the point will requery for the elevation of this point.
